I was asked what our track record was and I sort of fumbled around and looked dumb. "Beats me." I never really
put this list together as an actual portfolio but more so as a research tool. But I figured I should check out the performance
just for fun. Our original list was published in a press release in August of 2004. So I took the prices for each stock
of Yahoo's historical price link from Aug 04 to Aug 05 (just to make is easy I used the closing price at the end of the month
for each month and stock). I did add a couple stocks during the way but I only wanted to look at the original list.
Of 18 stocks on the list, 6 were relatively unchanged from beginning to end (although 3 of those jumped over 100% during the
year and settled back down), 2 were down about 13%, and 9 were up more than 50%. Of the 9 that were
up more than 50%, 3 were up more than 100% (those stocks were BSIC.ob *up 350%, MDKI *up 400% and since merged
into another company, and BABB.ob up 102%. The total return was over 70%.
I should also mention that 2 companies were taken private and one merged with another public company. Of the 2
that were taken private, one showed a decent gain and the other a small loss.
The moral of the story here: "You better have the big winners in your portfolio or your returns won't be so great." Or
"You better trade out half your shares when they pop, because many will return back to where they started."
*Notes: I realized later that I left out DAGM and PRCY.ob when I did the return percentage. DAGM did nothing during
the year (about $3 to $3, and now since a little lower) although they paid out .48 in dividends (not bad). PRCY.ob
was bought out and I believe it was trading at a decent gain when it was (25% maybe?). Also 3 other stocks paid out
dividends and that could be added to the return. Those stocks were BABB.ob, MPAD.ob, SCND.ob.
